Our ever popular ASA Girls Only days are hitting beach in Newquay with all the ingredients for a great girls day out. Get a taste of the action for yourself and take up this rare chance to meet the Animal pro-surf girl team including the likes of Welsh champ Gwen Spurlock, World Wave Kitesurf champ Kirsty Jones, and former British champion Nicola Bunt.

This year the day includes a surf lesson with the Animal team, a yoga session, a healthy beach picnic and a chance to head into the Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans event and check out all the action, having had a go it at yourself! The event’s got skate & BMX demos, the Animal Relentless Bike tour, live music and if that’s not enough, some of the world’s top pro surfer competing

In the evening you can buy tickets to the Watergate Bay music festival where you can catch The Streets, Cypress Hill, Calvin Harris and Super Furry Animal live on stage -  a perfect end to a girl’s day by the seaside.

Sam’s fearless approach won her respect and top place on the podium in Laax against contender Amy Fuller and Sophie Nicholls. Not content with being top junior, Sam also qualified for the women’s event so went for the title against established riders Laura Berry, Claire Frost and Jo Chastney.

Going for the front flip in the Women’s, Sam had a good chance of making it to the podium again but didn’t land it quite right so Berry clinched the title with a frontside 3. Sam is now placed 6th overall in the British Big Air and is definitely one to watch in the future.

Competitors were greeted with good 3-4 foot conditions at Fistral for the second round of the Men’s Open which saw the shock exit of tour leader Sam Lamiroy. Despite the November weather, spectators were out in force on the beach to support their favourites. They weren’t disappointed with some outstanding performance, including 9.64 ride and the King of the Waves tittle being awarded to local Newquay surfer Oli Adams in the quarter finals, the highest wave score of the contest.

The Semis saw the progression of Alan Stokes and South African Reubin Pearce into the Final. With Sam out of the running this meant that whoever placed highest would win the tour title. Joining them in the final were Bude brothers Josh and Reubyn Ash.

The weekend also saw the 2008 Surf Awards held at the Esplanade Hotel, South Fistral to celebrate the year’s achievement in surfing and to officially crown the 2008 tour champions.

Marking the end of the official competitions for the best of Britain’s ski & snowboard talent, the Animal party was set to be good night with everyone ready to get on the dance floor to the sound of an awesome line-up of some the UK’s most up and coming bands and DJs.

Brighton band Kovak lit up the dance floor with leat singer Annalise’s gravelly vocals getting the party going to the point that the crowd just had to get up on stage to join the band.

The Go! Team Djs then took over the helm with a mixture of electro, indie and dance late into the night, keeping up the quality music right until the end of their set. Animal’s very own half-pipe silver medallist Dom Harington took to the decks to keep the party going with an electric mixture of tunes that kept the crowd on the dance floor early into the morning.

Always the party not to miss, the Animal night stayed true form with a mix of top music, top ski & snowboard talent and a top night to end a great event.
